Jersey Shore Season 3 Finale

http://media.thenewschronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/deena1.jpg
As usual, Desperate isn’t having another new episode until this Sunday.  So instead I’m going to write about the ever-so-famous reality show, Jersey Shore.  If anyone is unfamiliar with the show, its about eight Italian-American (although Jenni, Snooki, and Ronni aren’t fully Italian) aka “guidos” and “guidettes” living in a shore house in Seaside, New Jersey.  We basically just follow their entire summer on the shore whether they are at the gym, tanning or out clubbing at Karma.

This is the finale of their third season.  The first season took place in Seaside, New Jersey during the summer of 2009, the second season took place in Miami during the winter of 2010, and the third season is back to their Seaside house the summer of 2010.  To an outsider from watching this show, it might seem stupid and pointless—how can people just want to watch these people’s lives for an hour once a week?  As meaningless as this show seems, many people—myself included—find themselves addicted to the show and start to like or dislike the roommates.  Now that it’s the end of the third season, a Jersey Shore “newbie” would be very confused if they were to watch this show randomly for the first time with their names and lingos.  Here’s the breakdown:

Girls left to right:
Sammi: No nick name really although she tries to call herself “Sammi-Sweatheart” but no one calls her that
Deena: One of Snooki’s friends from back home and joined the roommate this summer after former roommate Angelina left mid way through the first two seasons.
Jenni:  Aka “J-Woww”
Nicole: Aka “Snooki”

Guys left to right:
Paul: Aka “Pauly D”, “DJ Pauly D”
Mike: Aka “The Situation”
Ronni: He's dating Sammi
Vinny: The youngest guy

Creepin’: Looking for a hookup at the club
Grenade: An ugly, heavier girl (so insulting)
Gorilla: A muscular, tan, guido.
Landmine: An ugly but thinner girl (again, so insulting)
The shirt before the shirt: A wifebeater the guys wear before they are about to go out.
Tee-shirt time: When they are about to leave, they change out of their wifebeaters and into their tee-shirts they’re going to wear that night.
DTF: Down to f**k.  Used when they are finding girls to bring back to the house from the club.
DTS: Down to snuggle.
FTD: Fresh to death.  Looking good basically.
GTL: Gym, Tanning, Laundry.  The schedule they make for themselves to follow.
GFA: Grenade Free America.  Avoiding clubs and public places with grenades.
MVP: Mike, Vinny, Pauly.  When the single guys want a night out themselves looking for girls.

There will be a season 4 coming soon, but this time they won’t be in Miami or Seaside—they will be in the none other but Italy.  Can’t wait!

Searching

We are left again with another shocking episode.  This was the episode over spring break since they did not play one this past Sunday.

Gaby sees Bob and Lee have been taking their newly adopted daughter, Jenny, for violin lessons for the talent show.  With the way they praise her for having her do things to make them happy as to playing the violin, Gaby questions their parenting skills.  However, she starts to compare Jenny with her daughter Juanita and sees that Juanita does nothing other than watch TV after school.   She encourages Juanita to pursue tap dancing for the talent show, but after she sees how awful Juanita’s dance is the night of the talent show before they leave, Gaby hides her tap shoes to save embarrassment for Juanita, but mainly for herself.  After seeing how upset Juanita was as to have to drop out, she sees her parenting skills are much worse and how she disappointed her daughter for her own sake.

A move like this is a typical Gaby move.  She is always looking out for herself regardless of what others think.  This talent show and Juanita’s skit was a big realization for her showing how selfish she really is and she reflects by giving her the tap shoes back.  Seeing how happy it made Juanita made her feel good that she actually did a good deed for once.

After fainting, the doctors tell Susan her kidney is failing and to do everything now before it is too late.   Her and Mike have a romantic dinner at the park where they got married.  Mike ends up injuring his foot and is having trouble walking.  Their car then breaks down once they get to it so they are forced to walk with a sick patient and a limping man.  Mike expresses his frustration and fear of losing Susan and she tells him she will fight through this to grow old with him and to see MJ grow into a man.

Weirdly enough, Susan was very positive this whole episode.  Usually she always plays the “poor me” stunt but when she is finally in a “poor me” situation, she doesn’t act out that way.  Even as an adult, she is becoming more mature as to how to handle situations and realizes she has to be positive to everyone in her life and encourage them to be positive with her as well instead of everyone dwelling.

Rene tells Lynette she is interested in adopting a child of her own.  To prove to Lynette she can do it, she offers to babysit Paige for an evening.  Well, Rene ends up on a date, bringing Paige along to the restaurant, and Tom and Lynette are at the same restaurant.  Lynette finds out Rene paid a waitress to babysit the child and Lynette and Tom let all their anger out on Rene, telling her she would never make for a good parent.  She later apologizes and Lynette, her and Paige go out for an afternoon together to learn how to do daily things with a baby.

Rene is trying to change her life to be more like her friends and to prove her maturity to them; she wants to adopt a child (she is the only one unmarried without a child).  After the restaurant incident, Rene sees that she is too self-involved and not ready yet for a child as she wished she would and realizes the steps she has to go through in order to prepare herself.

Bree is feeling very depressed lately after Keith left, reflecting on her past of how her evil stepson took over her business and her grown children never call and she never sees her grandson anymore.  She invites the Reverend over for advice and he tells her to reach out to someone else to make her feel better about her self by helping someone.  She gets a blood test and is a match for Susan and plans on giving Susan her kidney.

Bree has had hardships in the past and with this most recent one, she is feeling helpless.  By helping one of her best friends, at the end of the episode she is starting to feel more positive and getting back into her regular “Bree mode.”

And finally, Beth pays a visit back to Paul’s house professing her love for him so he will take her back.  He refuses and tells him about how he did in fact kill Martha Huber, Beth’s aunt (the one that found out about Paul and Mary Alice stealing Zach from Mike at the hospital).  Beth goes to the jail to tell her mother about the news, but she is furious that Beth didn’t think to get the confession on tape and Beth is then removed off of her visitor’s list at the jail.  Beth is now feeling totally isolated and depressed so she realizes too she is a match for the kidney but Bree insists on being the donor.  Then at the hospital, Beth shots herself in the head, but the doctors are suspicious if she did or didn’t die from the gunshot.

Being isolated by Paul for good and being removed from her mother’s life, Beth is totally alone for the rest of her life and ultimately tries to commit suicide.  Kind of ironic though that this is Paul’s second wife and they both committed suicide.

Next week, I hope they go into great detail about Beth’s suicide and go more into why they don’t think she died directly from the gunshot and if it was something else instead.  And hopefully Bree’s kidney transplant will happen in enough time to save Susan’s life.

Oscars' Best Dressed..I Think Not

Once again, Desperate didn’t have a new episode this week due to the Oscars.  I figured I’d make this blog this week then about the Oscars, mainly the red carpet pre-show.  I went onto People.com and saw what they nominated at the top 19 best-dressed women.  I personally did not agree with some of their ratings so here is what I think the top 3 worst-dressed on their best-dressed list.
http://www.gaelick.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/theoscars.jpg
First off is Cate Blanchett.   She is wearing a much shorter hair cut without her long locks of blonde hair which I don’t think flatters her that well personally.  Now back to her dress.  I just think its very plain and strange looking.  You’ve got a seashell/circular figure on her chest with a rippled, textured affect that continues on the bottom portion of the dress.  The detail with the little spheres everywhere just don’t do anything for the dress and are basically pointless detailing.  Next, the cut of the dress is just very odd and boring yet again.  The sleeves have a boxed look to them and create a boxed looking for the rest of the dress, doing nothing for her small figure.  And finally, the random yellow touch at the top is so random and is just there—they don’t add much more appeal to the dress or anything.  Basically in my opinion, a big thumbs down.
Next up is Michelle Williams.  First of all, I am not really a fan of the pixy hair cut to begin with and I think she looked much better with her longer hair.  Now on to the dress.  It’s a very simple, tight fitting dress that has really nothing to it.  The nude color I don’t think agrees very well with her pale skin tone.  I understand a lot of celebrities go for that nude dressed look but I just am not a huge fan of it, especially when one’s skin tone doesn’t agree.  It’s a sheer base with beading detail all over it basically that just adds to the dreary tone.  The tee-shirt like sleeves don’t add to the appeal of the dress either just making it seem like a dull dress that resembles a tee-shirt on the top.  I do agree that it does flatter her figure somewhat by showing how skinny her waist it but other than that it’s just very blah and makes for a boring look-at at the Oscars.
Last up is Mandy Moore.  I really hate to do this to her because I am a fan of hers but this dress, not so much.  Beginning with her hair, I just am not a fan of the slick-back, middle part look so that wasn’t setting the mood very well when I first saw her on the red carpet.  The nude color of this dress too blends in too much with her pale skin tone.  Unless you get a zoomed in view of the top of the dress, you can’t tell where it cuts off and that there is a straight across neckline of the jewels across her neck and continuing to her shoulders.  When we get to the waist, I just find it very weird, the cut.  It looks like the dress is in two parts and the bottom part is wired or something to make it stick out—just very weird.  I do actually like the bottom half of the different material and the transition between the jewels and such to that other material but its just the neckline and the weird waist that is killing this look for her.
I really did not see any appeal in any of the dresses and I find it very hard and strange to believe that these three actresses were on People.com’s top 19 best dressed at the Oscars.
